Distinguished Faculty

Our distinguished faculty serve as the foundation of the Department of Chemistry. Chemistry faculty are leaders in the fields of teaching and research. The Department has over 30 faculty members that engage in active research programs. Faculty members participate in wide-ranging collaborations extending throughout the world, including: the National Institutes of Health, major industrial companies, and U.S. and international universities and research institutes.

Ground-Breaking Research

Faculty and students participate in active research programs encompassing modern aspects of analytical, biological, environmental, inorganic, organic, physical, and polymer chemistry. Our faculty and student research drives innovation both domestically and internationally, focusing on topics such as biological and biomedical problems, nanomaterials, and clean energy.

Collaborative Learning

The Department is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. It maintains strong ties to departments in Biological Sciences, Physics, and Chemical Engineering, as well as the School of Pharmacy and the UConn Health Center. Several members of the Department are affiliated with the Institute of Materials Science (IMS), which offers a wide variety of research instrumentation and technical support; many faculty hold joint appointments with IMS and with other departments at UConn and the UConn Health Center. The Department of Chemistry also has formal and informal graduate student exchange agreements with a wide range of collaborating institutions.

The Department of Chemistry boasts an award-winning, state-of-the-art facility with 65 cutting-edge research and teaching laboratories. The Chemistry Building is home to resources such as a mass spectrometry facility, a nuclear magnetic resonance facility, and flow cytometry equipment. Nearby departments and institutes also offer an extensive array of equipment for research and education.
