The department and many of its faculty and staff members have a strong history of service and outreach. They organize, direct, and participate in the activities listed below.
There are programs geared toward K-12 aged students as well as undergraduates. Students from local communities in Connecticut and throughout the country benefit from chemistry outreach. The feature that unites all of the programs is an emphasis on demonstrating the positive impact chemistry contributes in its service to society. This comes through educational programs such as KASET and SECRET, and through competition in events such as the Middle School Science Bowl and ACS Chemistry Olympiad. The REU program is an NSF-funded training program for undergraduate students to gain experience in the practice of chemistry research.
