The Empowering Honors Organic Chemistry

Reasons to take Honors Organic Chemistry

There is an exciting opportunity for you when it comes to taking CHEM 2443 (Organic Chemistry II) in the Fall. I run a section that is a little different to the others. It is a Section for Honors and non-Honors students. For those of you not in the Honors Program, it might sound a little intimidating, but I wanted to let you know that in my section you’d be getting the best of all worlds when it comes to the course. There are some great advantages and opportunities that you get by being in this section:

  • The material covered in the course is very much like that in the regular sections, with us going into a bit more detail on some topics, but it’s not super-difficult and the workload is not overwhelming
  • The lectures comprise of short videos that you can watch at any time on HuskyCT
  • There is a Graduate Teaching Assistant and four Undergraduate Peer Mentors assigned to the course to help you work through the material – the Undergraduate Peer Mentors are all students who have taken the course in this Section over the last two years
  • The two class periods each week are dedicated to discussing the material covered in the lectures and are, in essence, Discussion Sessions
  • The Discussion Sessions allow us to go through lots of practice problems and to talk about the topics we are covering so you get lots of support
  • There are five Office Hours each week – these are held by me, the course Graduate Teaching Assistant, and the Undergraduate Peer Mentors
  • My Section is generally smaller than the regular sections so there’s more opportunity for us to get to know each other well.

I just want to bring this section to your attention and invite you to join. I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the Section. You will need permission to enroll, and I can give you that if you email me.
