UConn’s 12 new CASE members include researchers, university leaders, entrepreneurs, and educators.
UConn is well represented in the newest class of inductees to the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE).
The organization announced that 12 UConn and UConn Health faculty members will be honored at the Academy’s 47th annual meeting, to be held virtually on May 26. In total, 35 new members will be honored, spanning Connecticut’s academic and industrial sectors.
The Connecticut General Assembly chartered CASE in 1976 to advise the state on matters of science and engineering, especially pertaining to economic advancement and social welfare. All members must either reside or work in Connecticut.
According to the CASE website, members nominate candidates for induction based on several criteria, including accomplishments in science, engineering, and/or technology. Scientists and engineers can achieve membership through significant original contribution in theory and application or unusual accomplishments in the pioneering of new and developing fields of their disciplines.
UConn’s 12 new CASE members include researchers, university leaders, entrepreneurs, and educators. They represent the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering, UConn Health, the Avery Point campus, and the Technology Incubation Program.
Pamir Alpay, UConn’s interim vice president for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship and a CASE member since 2012, congratulated the new inductees.
“UConn deservedly has a strong presence in CASE, illustrating the contributions our faculty make to advance Connecticut as an academic and industrial leader in science and engineering,” Alpay says. “I am delighted to welcome so many of my colleagues, who will further enrich our state with their expertise.”
